Robotics Clubs Gather at Riverside to Celebrate STEM Challenge

After 3 months of planning, designing, and building a Moon Base, members of area robotics clubs invited their families and friends to an expo held at Riverside Elementary to see how students solved problems related to living on the moon.

Over 250 people gathered at the Lakeview First Lego League Jr Robotics Expo to observe displays and discuss what students know about living on the moon. According to Expo Coordinator Jessica Day, “Competitions and showcases serve as an engaging way for students to develop and display their skills in Science & Technology.”

The Riverside Club earned the Solid as a Rock Award for applying their construction knowledge to produce a very sturdy model as well as the Effort and Learning Award.

Judges for the event included Todd Day from Eaton Corporation, Amanda Yackle from Eaton Corporation, John Burdette from Battle Creek Area Math and Science Center, and Kevin Allard from EMC Insurance Company.

Following the Expo, Lakeview elementary schools and middle school Robotics Club members volunteered to help Lakeview High School with the FIRST Tech Challenge Michigan State Championship at Kellogg Arena on December 14 and 15.
