The State of Michigan has a sister state relationship with Shiga Prefecture. Since 1990 Michigan has been sending high school student representatives to Shiga to experience life in Japan for two weeks in the summer. Then in the fall the American students host their Japanese counterparts for two weeks, so Japanese students can experience life in America. This exchange is managed at the state level. For more information about the program and application process, please go to the Michigan-Shiga Exchange Program Website.
