2005 Athletic Hall of Fame Inductees

  • Suzy Brevitz, Class of 1974
    Swimming, Tennis: Leading scorer on first girls' swim team. Placed 2nd in 50 Breaststroke and 200 Medley Relay and 3rd in 100 Breaststroke at the first girl's state swim meet. Played on the first girl's Tennis team at LHS and also on the men's tennis team. Played two years of Tennis and swam for three years at MSU. Set four MSU swim records, was a two-time Big Ten champion, and an NCAA All-American in the Breaststroke and Medley Relay events. Named a Top 10 MSU Scholar Athlete.

    Joel Manby, Class of 1977
    Football, Baseball, Track: All-Conference, All-State, team captain in Football. Held school record for kicking field goals. All-Conference Baseball, Four years Baseball, MVP, and twice All-MIAA at Albion College. Four years Football, twice All-MIAA, and Academic All-American at Albion College. Received NCAA Post-Grad scholarship, Rhode Scholarship finalist, and member of the Albion College Athletic Hall of Fame.

    Raymond "Butch" Perry, LHS Teacher and Coach for 32 years. Coached freshman, JV and varsity Football for 29 years. Coached Basketball for 3 years. Head varsity Baseball coach for 28 years---ten-time City, Conference and District champions. Four-time Regional champions, twice State Runners-up, two-time State Champions. MHSAA Coach of the Year three times, twice MHSAA Dream-Team Coach. Member of the MHSAA Hall of Fame. Career Baseball record--509 wins and 269 losses.

    Bill Slack, Class of 1992
    Football, Basketball, Baseball: All-Conference, All-State, team Captain in Football. All-Conference, Captain and Best Competitor--Basketball. All-Conference, All-State, Captain and MVP--Baseball. The only LHS athlete to play in two MHSAA All-Star games--Football and Baseball. LHS Athlete of the Year. Three-year varsity Basketball at CMU--"Best Defensive Player", finished 2nd nationally in Div 1 3-point field goals. Played pro-Basketball in Europe being top scorer and top defensive player.

    Charlie Wright, Class of 1987
    Swimming, Track: Four-year letter winner, four-time MVP and team captain in Swimming. Three-time City and Conference champion in 200 & 500 Freestyle. Set new conference records in 200 & 500 Freestyle and a new school record in the 100 Backstroke. Four-year state finalist and All-State in the 200 & 500 Freestyle. Three-year letter winner and team captain at Western Kentucky University. Conference finalist in 500 and 1650 Freestyle. Named Indiana High School Swimming Coach of the Year in 1993.
