GRADING INTERPRETATION

  • Interpreting Students' Grades in the Fourth Grade

     
     

    In order to provide you with a guide for interpreting your child’s grades, the 4th grade grading system has been broken down by subject area below. We hope that this provides you with a better understanding of your child’s performance on class assignments and assessments.


    MATH GRADES

    • Homework: Your child will earn a plus, check-plus, check, check-minus, or a minus  on his/her homework assignments.

    Plus= All or almost all of the answers are correct with 1 or less minor mistakes.

    Check-Plus= Almost all of the answers correct with few minor mistakes.

    Check= Half of the answers correct with several mistakes.

    Check-Minus= Few of the answers correct and many mistakes.

    Minus= No answers correct and/or mistakes on every problem.


    • Minor Assessments: Students will earn a grade of 1-4 on assessments taken during the math units. These scores match the description given on the students’ report cards.

       4 Advanced= Beyond Grade level

       3 Proficient =Meets Grade Level Expectations

       2 Basic= Approaching Grade Level Expectations

       1 Below= Below Grade Level Expectations

    • End-of-Unit Assessments: Rubrics will be used to determine the points earned on end-of-unit assessments. The points will be used to calculate a percentage for the students’ grades. A score 70% and above is considered passing. Any student scoring below a 70% will be required to have his/her test signed by a parent.


    SCIENCE GRADES

    -          Journal Pages: Students will earn a grade of 1-4 on science journal pages. The scores will match the description on the students’ report cards that is detailed in the math section above (Advanced, Proficient, Basic, and Below).

     

    -          Assessments: Students will complete 4 unit tests during the school year in science. The test will be multiple-choice and short answer. The points earned will be used to calculate a percentage for the students’ grade. A score 70% and above is considered passing. Any student scoring below a 70% will be required to have his/her test signed by a parent.


     

    SOCIAL STUDIES GRADES

    -          Class Assignments: Assignments students complete in class will be scored with a plus, check-plus, check, check-minus, or a minus. See description in the homework section of math grades listed above.

     

    -          Assessments: Students will complete 7 unit tests during the school year in social studies. The tests will be multiple-choice. The points earned will be used to calculate a percentage for the students’ grade. A score 70% and above is considered passing. Any student scoring below a 70% will be required to have his/her test signed by a parent.
