Choices is a class designed for freshmen and sophomores as they begin to take increasing responsibility for the decisions that will affect their life now and into their future. The class will include activities to increase awareness of personal strengths and interests. Topics will include goal setting and decision making skills, including how to avoid destructive decisions. Students will look at the importance of building positive relationships, and building positive character traits and how all of this will help them choose a career that will be a good personal fit.

How do you know whom to believe with so much conflicting information? This course will look at the USDA guidelines for healthy eating. We will spend time on nutrition issues relating to health, disease, and athletic performance. In addition we will look at issues of food safety and how nutritional needs change during the human life cycle.

Students will explore human development for conception to adulthood to develop an understanding of how children differ from adults. Students will explore the needs of special needs children, and examine parenting cross-culturally. Students will have opportunities to observe and work with children. The emphasis is continually on parenting and parental choices.
