ART DEPARTMENT For the Classes of 2011 and beyond, Art classes satisfy the Visual, Performing and Applied Arts credit requirement.
HSAR100 INTRODUCTION TO ART This course is an introduction to visual composition, studio skills, techniques, styles and media. Original composition and individual growth in skill development is stressed. Students will explore drawing, painting, collage, printmaking, and sculpture. An overview of Art History from Prehistory through the Renaissance is explored. Introduction to Art may be taken more than once by those students who earn credit but earn a grade below a C-. HSAR200 DRAWING AND PAINTING Students will develop their drawing skills using a variety of media including pencil, pen and ink, washes, chalk, oil pastels and crayons. Emphasis will be on furthering proficiency in media use and drawing. Painting students will build on their drawing skills to create original works. Students will explore the process of etching, intaglio, and relief printing. Students will spend time reviewing the works of Albect Durer as well as Renaissance and present day printmakers. Graphic design will emphasize commercial art concepts and careers. Layout, lettering, logo illustration will be studied. A variety of media will be used along with computer manipulation of designs.
